UNFPA in collaboration with the Belize Family Life Association (BFLA) through the support of the Spotlight Initiative in Belize certified 15 (fifteen) community-based Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) trainers through a Regional Training of Trainers (TOT) course on CSE delivery. The Initiative was conducted under the Spotlight Initiative Regional Programme in the Caribbean.
This certification was a significant step advancing on work done in 2020 and 2021 to expand the Belize Family Life Association CSE Peer Education Programme aligned to UNESCO’s International Technical guidance on Sexuality Education and the International Technical and Programmatic Guidance on Out of School CSE. Additionally, these 15 (fifteen) certified regional trainers will train the 65 (sixty-five) community-based CSE Trainers to actively engage in and out-of-school young person; teaching and learning about the cognitive, emotional, physical and social aspects of human sexuality.
These CSE trainers will also be able to engage in interactive and participatory activities to help young people gain new information and skills in a full range of topics related to human sexuality, rights and gender, without omitting challenging or sensitive topics. In an effort to strategically sustain and govern the work of the community-based CSE trainers in Belize, UNFPA and BFLA were successfully able to establish a National CSE Peer Education Network with an accompanying CSE Action Plan.
