The UN observes International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November. This observance raises awareness of the continuing toll of gender-based violence.
Violence against women and girls is one of the most prevalent human rights violations in the world. Globally, it is estimated that one in three women will experience physical or sexual abuse in her lifetime.

2018 International Conference on Family Planning
The International Conference on Family Planning, held every other year, brings together family planning experts to assess the state of family planning around the world and share best practices. This year’s conference is held in Kigali, Rwanda.
UNFPA, which works at every level to support access to safe, voluntary family planning, is a key partner in convening this event.

UN Day celebrates the anniversary of the day the UN Charter entered into force in 1945.
This founding treaty was initially signed in San Francisco, on 26 June 1945. After it was ratified, it entered into force on 24 October, marking the birth of the United Nations.
