Women claiming their rights to bodily autonomy

In the vibrant heart of the Caribbean, where sun-kissed shores meet rich cultures and traditions, we are also navigating the complexities of the digital age. Our digital selves are just as important as our real-world identities, yet the threat of digital violence looms large.

What is Bodyright?

Imagine a unique symbol—a beacon of empowerment that proclaims your right to bodily autonomy in the digital realm. This is Bodyright, a revolutionary initiative launched by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to combat digital violence. This emblem serves as a shield against the exploitation of our images and identities online, encouraging us to protect ourselves and each other.

In our tropical paradise, where every smile tells a story and every  body is a work of art, adding the bodyright symbol to your online images is an act of defiance and pride. It signifies that your body is yours to share on your terms, echoing the rhythms of consent and respect that flow through our communities.

The Urgent Need for Bodyright Campaign in the Caribbean

The Caribbean is no stranger to the challenges posed by digital violence. With rising internet connectivity, the online world has become a double-edged sword. While it offers a platform for expression and creativity, it also harbors threats like cyberharassment, hate speech, and non-consensual sharing of images. Women, girls, and marginalized communities often bear the brunt of this abuse, leaving scars that linger far beyond the screen.

In our region, where vibrant celebrations and cultural pride flourish, we must acknowledge the stark reality that 85% of women have encountered digital violence, and many of us are deeply affected. It’s time to rise together, harnessing our collective strength to create safer digital spaces where everyone can thrive.

A Call to Action: Join the Bodyright Movement

The Caribbean spirit is one of resilience, joy, and unity. Let's channel that energy into action! Here are ways you can embody the bodyright movement:

1. Take a photo by the beach, or at a fete or any special occasion and add the bodyright symbol before sharing it online. Use the hashtag #bodyright to connect with others in our community.

2. Share your thoughts about digital violence and the importance of body autonomy. Start conversations in your local community, schools, or gatherings—let’s break the silence together.

3. Post about the bodyright campaign, share links to the campaign video, or use provided assets. Your voice can spark awareness and change!

4. Support the UNFPA + Global Citizen petition. Encourage your friends and family to join in—collective action can make waves.

5. Organize local events that highlight body positivity and digital safety. Whether it's a beach clean-up or a dance party, let’s celebrate our bodies and our rights!

Embracing Our Digital Autonomy

In the Caribbean, we have a rich heritage of embracing our bodies, celebrating our cultures, and advocating for our rights. The bodyright movement invites us to extend that celebration into the digital realm. Let's stand together to protect our identities and promote respect in every space we inhabit.

Join us as we take this bold step towards a future where every body is honoured, both online and offline. Because in the Caribbean, we know that the virtual is just as real as the warm sun on our skin—let's claim our body rights with pride!
