In May 2014, The Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development of Trinidad & Tobago in collaboration with UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund hosted a series of National Consultations on the findings and recommendations of the Population Situation Analysis (PSA). The PSA examines trends in population and reproductive health dynamics and their impacts on poverty, inequality and development.

The aim of the consultations was to engage national stakeholders to get their feedback on this very important study which will inform the development of a revised National Population Policy. The Population Policy will define government’s policy on population and outline its approach to managing population resources in keeping with the government’s objective of achieving “economic inclusiveness in an innovation-driven, growth economy with greater equity, more meaningful participation and a rising tide of prosperity for All.”

A total of three (3) consultations were convened across Trinidad and Tobago from May 16 to May 28 beginning in Tobago on May 16 and culminating in South in Trinidad on May 28, 2014.

The PSA and notes requesting the establishment of a national population council and a technical unit within the Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development will shortly be submitted to Cabinet for approval.
