Known as the “Water people”, the Warrau live in the Orinoco Delta, one of Venezuela’s most remote
regions. They are among the migrants from Venezuela who have entered Guyana. Accessing healthcare
and essential services has been challenging for this Indigenous population, particularly for adolescent
girls and women. To address this, UNFPA supports mobile Sexual and Reproductive Health outreach activities in hinterland communities in Region 1 in Guyana. Women and adolescent girls travel long distances in their canoes to receive care. This forms part of efforts to ensure that advancements are made without leaving anyone behind.
