Venezuelan Migrants in Regions 1 and 7 in Guyana were provided with Sexual and Reproductive Health Care services courtesy of UNFPA in Guyana and the Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association (GPRA) in June. The mission was funded by the Government of Canada under the EQUAL SRHR project.
The UNFPA team supported GPRA, to engage in assessments and mobile service delivery to members of the targeted communities, inclusive of GBV survivors and persons at risk of GBV, particularly returning Guyanese from Venezuela, Venezuelan migrants, and members of the host communities. The UNFPA team also supported the Ministry of Health in the rolling out of training of Health Care Workers in Family Planning, in addition to mobile SRH outreaches.
The main aim of the activity was to identify gaps and support the strengthening of interventions geared towards increasing access to and use of quality sexual and reproductive health and rights information and services by women and adolescent girls, especially survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, in the communities that were supported. At the end it is expected that they will have enhanced access to and use of quality sexual and reproductive health and rights information and services.
The UNFPA Guyana Liaison Office has received funding from the Canadian Government under the EQUAL SRHR programme to engage partners and implement a number of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) related interventions that are grounded in the Minimum Initial Services Package (MISP) for Reproductive Health.
The EQUAL SRHR programme seeks to provide improved protection for women and girls in Guyana through enhanced access to SRH services, inclusive of GBV services. It aims to improve the protection of women and girls in Guyana, particularly Venezuelan migrants and host communities, by increasing the exercise of their rights to bodily integrity and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH).
