In this issue, we say farewell to Former Deputy Director of the UNFPA Sub-regional Office of the Caribbean Seth Broekman.

Seth came to the SROC from the UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) where he had been providing oversight and quality assurance support to 21 Country Offices, 22 UNCTs and the Regional Office on strategic planning, programme management and UN Reform since 2013. Before joining the ESARO, Seth was involved in the following: Head of the UNFPA Decentralized Office for Northern Nigeria with UNFPA Nigeria; UN Reform Advisor for ILO Regional Office in Bangkok, Thailand; M&E Focal Point for UNFPA Afghanistan and UNFPA Nepal. Prior to joining the UN, he worked in Uganda for an NGO specializing in HIV/AIDS and for a financial institution in the Netherlands.

During his tenure at the SROC Seth provided stellar leadership which led to a number of achievements some of which included:

  • Restructuring the way that the SROC, to build a solid empowered SROC team
  • Strengthen the technical programming of the SROC, and solidly reposition the SROC to attract unprecedented levels of core and  non-core funding. The SROC's humanitarian platform has been significantly strengthened and the eastern Caribbean for example mobilized over 3.5 million USD for 6 EC countries. 
  • The development of an exceptional Sub-regional Development Programme (SRPD)

Seth has consistently been commended for his astute leadership, exemplary integrity and his ability to see each person beyond their role in the team. According to one member of staff: “your leadership and guidance of the work of the SROC will never be forgotten, and you have left your mark in the Caribbean.”
