World Population Day is commemorated annually on July 11 as an effort to recognize that reproductive health is at the very heart of development and crucial to delivering the UNFPA vision — a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

Approximately 16% of all live births in Suriname have a teen mother; close to 75% of these births are the results of unplanned pregnancies.
In order to raise awareness about the issue, the Suriname United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA) commemorates World Population Day in collaboration with Ministry of Sport & Youth Affairs through panel presentations and discussions about teenage pregnancy and adolescent parenthood in Suriname. The two day event will be held on 18 and 19 July. It will present data and diverse perspectives that speak to the impact of teen pregnancy on people's lives, as well as on national development.
