The International Day of the Girl Child was recognized for the first time on Thursday October 11, 2012. To mark this auspicious event the UNFPA held several public forums to discuss the challenges affecting girls. The UNFPA Caribbean contributed bu holding public forums to highlight the concerns of girls in our region.
 
The Public Forum in Jamaica hosted in association with the Ministry of Youth and Culture entitled "Ending Impunity for Sexual Violence: Breaking the Silence " was held at the Courtleigh Auditorium, New Kingston.
 
The Public Frum in Guyana in association with the Ministry of Labour, Human services and Social Security entitled “Connecting girls, inspiring their future” was held at Duke Lodge, Georgetown.
